AFTER DARK AT THE V&A: EXPLORING IDENTITY, DESIGN AND NEW PERSPECTIVES
What happens when art, design, technology and culture collide after dark?
On 18 September, the V&A will open its doors after hours for Friday Late: Awakenings, bringing together artists, designers, performers and creatives for an evening exploring how we experience the world around us.
Part of London Design Festival, Awakenings will transform the V&A through a programme of installations, performances, music, workshops and talks.
The evening explores themes including identity, technology, ecology, modern spiritualities and the relationship between humans and the non-human world, bringing together different creative disciplines and perspectives under one roof.
Rather than presenting design as something purely visual, the programme explores how it can influence the way we live, communicate, understand ourselves and interact with our surroundings.
That interdisciplinary approach is particularly reflective of London’s creative community, where traditional boundaries between art, design, technology, music and performance are increasingly blurred.
Awakenings also creates opportunities for audiences to experience the V&A differently. By opening the museum after hours and filling its spaces with live experiences and participatory work, Friday Late encourages audiences who may not typically engage with museum programming to experience the collection and building in a new way.
For Media House, supporting cultural experiences such as Awakenings reflects our wider work across arts, culture, entertainment and audience engagement, helping creative projects connect with diverse audiences.
The evening also highlights the importance of bringing different perspectives into cultural spaces. From emerging designers and artists to performers and audiences from across London, Friday Late creates an environment where different communities and creative practices can meet.
At its heart, Awakenings is about looking at familiar ideas differently — and recognising that creativity can come from many places, disciplines and perspectives.
