GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS 2022

Instead of the loud-and-proud event of the Golden Globes that we are accustomed to, the event was scaled back this year with limited attendance and was not televised. Due to the surge of the Omicron variant, the event was kept low-key for everyone’s safety. But this didn’t stop any big wins for well-deserved performances and films that released last year.

Andrew Garfield won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Rent creator Jonathan Larson in “tick…tick…BOOM!”.

Kenneth Branagh received the Globe for Best Screenplay, Motion Picture, for “Belfast”.

For Best Actress, Nicole Kidman and “West Side Story” lead Rachel Zegler separated themselves from the pack, winning in the Drama and Musical/Comedy categories respectively. This award is Kidman's sixth Golden Globe win and a first for Zegler.

“West Side Story” and “The Power of the Dog” proved the most popular movies of the night, with both taking home three awards each.

The Best Actor Award went to none other than Will Smith for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father of the Tennis Duo Venus and Serena Williams in “King Richard”. A film we supported Warner Bros. with in the UK for its theatrical release in cinemas on 19th November 2021.

History was also made as Pose's Michaela Jaé Rodriguez took home the award for best television actress in a drama series; the first transgender actress to win a Golden Globe. She gave an emotional speech on Instagram Live and thanked those who worked on the show and spoke of paving the way for others.

"This is for the LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian, the many multi beautiful colours of the rainbow around the freaking world. This not just for me, this is for y'all," she said. "There are going to be so many young individuals — young, talented thriving individuals — that are going to be able to trail in and storm in through the door. This is for y'all."

A huge congratulations to all the winners at the awards this year from Media House.
