A NEW MUSICAL, BASED ON THE HIT FILM “PRIDE”
Summer, 1984. With miners on strike across the UK, 24-year-old activist Mark Ashton takes a bold step: he rallies a diverse group of gay men and lesbians to support the struggling mining communities. Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) quickly becomes entwined with a small pit village in South Wales, forging a bond that neither community could have anticipated.
This remarkable true story reveals how two marginalized groups came together, united by compassion and solidarity, and discovered they had far more in common than they ever imagined. It is a tale of courage, friendship, and the power of collective action.
Funny, fierce and full of heart, Pride comes from the National Theatre, reuniting director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, the creators of the original film, with composers Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde. The production features an original score, blending songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the rich tradition of Welsh choral music, creating a soundtrack as bold and vibrant as the story itself.
“Pride” is more than a story about the past — it is an uplifting reminder of how solidarity and courage can bring communities together and change lives.
