“SHOLAY” TO MAKE ITS WORLD PREMIERE AS A LIVE FILMS IN CONCERT EXPERIENCE AT ROYAL ALBERT HALL
A Bollywood classic is about to be experienced like never before. Sholay, one of Indian cinema’s most iconic films, is set to make its Films in Concert World Premiere at London’s Royal Albert Hall, bringing Ramesh Sippy’s legendary 1975 Western to the big screen alongside a live performance of R.D. Burman’s unforgettable score by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
The film that introduced audiences to unforgettable characters, iconic dialogue and some of the most enduring music in Indian cinema is returning to the big screen in a spectacular new format.
Taking place on Saturday 10 October 2026, Sholay in Concert will see the newly restored Sholay: The Final Cut projected onto a giant HD screen inside the Royal Albert Hall, with the film presented in Hindi with English subtitles. The screening will be accompanied live by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Melvin Tay, performing R.D. Burman’s much-loved score.
Originally released in 1975, Sholay has become one of the most celebrated films in Indian cinema. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan, and follows two small-time crooks, Jai and Veeru, who are hired by retired police officer Thakur Baldev Singh to take on the notorious bandit Gabbar Singh.
Blending action, drama, romance, comedy and some of Indian cinema’s most memorable musical moments, Sholay became a cultural phenomenon and remains one of Bollywood’s most influential films.
For this special presentation, audiences will experience Sholay: The Final Cut, a newly restored 4K version of the film that reinstates footage that was removed by Indian censors following its original release. The restored version offers audiences the opportunity to rediscover the landmark film with enhanced picture quality while experiencing its iconic score performed live.
The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be conducted by Melvin Tay, bringing R.D. Burman’s celebrated compositions to life alongside the film. The combination of the restored classic, a giant HD screen and a live orchestra promises an immersive new way to experience one of Indian cinema’s most beloved films.
Produced by Sippy Films and esk, Sholay in Concert forms part of the Royal Albert Hall’s Films in Concert series and marks the world premiere of this unique presentation.
