“TUTU”: THE LIFE & LEGACY OF A VOICE THAT HELPED CHANGE A NATION
A new documentary from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard, TUTU explores the life and legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, one of the most influential voices in the fight against apartheid.
Tutu’s story is inseparable from South Africa’s struggle for justice. Through his public voice and moral conviction, he became a pivotal figure in the opposition to apartheid, speaking out against a system that denied people their freedom and dignity. His commitment to justice was matched by a belief in reconciliation: the possibility of building a shared future after profound division.
TUTU reflects on the ideas at the heart of that legacy. It considers what it means to resist injustice, how a voice can bring attention to a nation’s struggle, and why reconciliation remains an essential part of the search for a more equal society. Tutu’s belief in our shared humanity continues to resonate far beyond the circumstances in which he first became known.
As Black History Month draws to a close, TUTU offers audiences an opportunity to revisit the life and work of a leader whose influence reached well beyond South Africa. His example invites reflection on the people who speak up in difficult times, the importance of standing for justice, and the hope involved in finding a way forward together.
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard, TUTU comes to UK cinemas on 11th December. Find out more on https://releasing.dogwoof.com/tutu.
