DOGWOOF TO RELEASE SUNDANCE HIT “HANGING BY A WIRE” IN UK CINEMAS THIS AUGUST

Dogwoof has announced the UK theatrical release of Hanging by a Wire, the acclaimed documentary from award-winning Pakistani filmmaker Mohammed Ali Naqvi, arriving in cinemas across the UK on 28th August 2026.

Selected to open at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it screened to sold-out audiences and competed for the Grand Jury Prize, Hanging by a Wire chronicles one of the most extraordinary real-life rescue missions in recent memory. The film is produced by Mindhouse, EverWonder Studio, Universal Pictures Content Group and 64th Street Media.

Directed, produced and co-written by Mohammed Ali Naqvi—whose previous credits include Netflix's Turning Point and the BBC's The Accused: Damned or Devoted?—the documentary recounts the dramatic events of August 2023, when a makeshift cable car carrying eight passengers, including six schoolboys, became stranded hundreds of feet above a ravine after one of its supporting cables snapped in the remote foothills of Pakistan's Himalayas.

As daylight faded and fears grew that the remaining cable could fail at any moment, local volunteers, first responders and military rescue teams embarked on an extraordinary race against time. Through immersive first-hand footage and deeply personal testimony, Hanging by a Wire transforms a headline-making news event into an intimate portrait of courage, resilience and the remarkable strength of a community determined to save its own.

The film will open in UK cinemas on Friday 28th August 2026, before premiering in North America through Abramorama and AB2 Media Group, with a theatrical rollout ahead of its streaming debut later in the year.
