LONDON INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL'S 17TH EDITION DELIVERS STAR POWER, UK PREMIERES & UNFORGETTABLE CINEMATIC MOMENTS
The 17th edition of the London Indian Film Festival (LIFF) once again cemented its position as Europe's leading celebration of South Asian independent cinema, bringing together internationally acclaimed filmmakers, celebrated talent and audiences for an unforgettable programme of premieres, special events and industry conversations across the UK.
One of the festival's standout moments was the highly anticipated In Conversation event with Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, offering audiences a rare opportunity to hear first-hand reflections on his extraordinary career. The event also marked the 25th anniversary of the Academy Award-nominated classic Lagaan, celebrating one of Indian cinema's most influential films.
The festival also celebrated a landmark reunion of the beloved cast of Goodness Gracious Me, bringing together Sanjeev Bhaskar, Meera Syal, Nina Wadia, Kulvinder Ghir and writer Anil Gupta for a special anniversary event honouring the groundbreaking BBC comedy series and its lasting cultural impact.
Opening this year's festival was the European premiere of 52 Blue, directed by award-winning filmmaker Ali El Arabi and starring Adil Hussain and Neha Dhupia, setting the tone for an exceptional programme of UK and European premieres that showcased bold storytelling from across India and the South Asian diaspora. Audiences were also treated to a diverse selection of independent features, documentaries, restored classics and short films spanning multiple genres and perspectives.
Among the festival's major innovations was Europe's first Indian AI & Film Showcase, exploring the intersection of emerging technologies and creative storytelling while reinforcing LIFF's commitment to championing the future of cinema alongside its celebration of established filmmaking excellence.
Held across London, Birmingham, Manchester and additional UK cities, the festival continued to provide a vital platform for emerging and established filmmakers, fostering dialogue between creators, industry professionals and audiences through filmmaker Q&As, gala screenings and networking events.
As another successful edition draws to a close, the London Indian Film Festival continues to champion powerful storytelling, cultural exchange and cinematic innovation, reaffirming its reputation as one of the world's most influential showcases for independent South Asian cinema.
